Many causes: Early pregnancy is not a typical cause of pain in the pubic bone itself. Pain in the area can be from causes as diverse as strain, bladder infection, etc. If suspecting a pregnancy, a woman should check a home pregnancy test. If she suspects a bladder infection or has intense or ongoiing pain, an office exam is recommended by most doctors.

Not necessarily: If you had sex since your last period and miss your period by 4-5 days, do a home pregnancy test. If the result is negative repeat the test 4-5 days later unless you get a period by then. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.
