Allergy?: If he is acting ok no fever drinking eating etc it sounds like hives. They are typically blotches they might come and go affect different parts of the body etc. Think about new foods, possibly just changed to milk, think of new soaps detergents, fabric softness something new in 24 to 48 hours before the rash. If he starts not acting well, develops a fever, or no resolution in a few days see ur dr.

Erythema infectiosum: He may have fifths disease especially if the rash extends to his arm and legs.
