You don't: If you live in the us there is lots of i in the diet - even if people think they are avoiding iodinated salt. In the world i deficiency is the most common cause of hypothyroidism and large swarths of western china have i deficiency. In this country 85% of hypothyroidism is due to hashimoto's disease.
