I just bought a brand new vicks thermometer. my 8 year olds temp was 100.8. i had the school nurse check him when we got to school and it was 98.7. is my thermometer broken?

Probably not: What's missing from your question is the type of thermometer used in both measurements. The temperature measured under the tongue may be different from that measured in the rectum, on the forehead or in the ear. In each case the temperature can vary throughout the day normally or dependent on activity.
