Possibly: There are hundreds of strains of hpv. The vaccine only covers 4 strains. So strains cause warts, some increase the risk of cancer.

Certainly: HPV is a family of viruses that include at least 9 strains that are transmitted sexually. The vaccine does not "treat" or eliminate the germs when you have them. If you take the vaccine before you are exposed you may not get it. Once your girlfriend acquired HPV, it could become inactive after a couple years and not transfer, but might do so episodically. A blood test could see if you have it.
