Shouldnot be any : The whole concept of any anesthesia is to reduce to zero any discomphort or pain during dental surgery, so you should not feel any pain during surgery of wisdom teeth removal.

Not "painful": In having a tooth extracted with local anesthesia you should not feel any pain but you may feel pressure and you will be aware of the noises involved in removing a tooth.

Tooth extraction: That can vary quite a bit, depending on the difficulty of the extraction, the patient's pain tolerance and if there is an existing infection. No two people are alike , and no two teeth are alike. If a patient is completely numb there should be no pain involved with a tooth extraction.

Shouldn't be painful: Oral surgeons have different ways of approaching this. Some use only local and some may use local and nitrous gas and/or an intravenous medication (3 anesthesia meds). Depending on the skill level of the surgeon and the needs of the specific patient, the right anesthesia meds will be used. Make sure you are monitored properly if IV sedation and nitrous oxide is used--namely a pulse oximeter.

No pain: Once you are completely numb, there should be no pain from the extraction. However, if the tooth is infected, then you may consider intravenous sedation.

Not very: Most teeth extractions can be done under local anesthesia with a cooperative patient. If there are especially impacted teeth then some sedation might be indicated. I don't even remember the procedure after a little dose of valium. If you have concerns please contact your dentist and discuss these fears with him. Good luck.

Should not hurt!: With today's techniques there is no reason for you to experience pain when having any tooth extracted, even if you only have local anesthetic. If you have general anesthetic and are put to sleep obviously there would be no pain either. So go for it!

Wisdom teeth: If the patient is sufficiently/completely numb all that will be felt is some pressure.

Uncomfortable: Uncomfortable as opposed to painful. The more complex the extraction, the longer and more intrusive the procedure. Please schedule time with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to discuss your concerns and the degree of complexity of your surgical need, then follow pre and post operative instructions to the letter.
