Nephrolithiasis: There are many different types of stones including calcium oxalate (mono & dihydrate), calcium phosphate, struvite, cystine, indinvir, matrix and uric acid stones, to name a few. However, the types of stone is not the whole answer. A complete stone risk analysis also includes specific serum and urine studies, as well.

Stones: Kidney stones are most often calcium- oxalate. Calcium phospate stones happen with high PTH. Uric acid stones happen. Cysteine stones occur in children. Acyclovir can form urine crystals. Ask docs to order 24 hour urine for stone profile at commercial lab, such as Quest or Litholink, or LabCorp. Litholink is mail in.. Very convenient. This is essential.
