I have diagnosed hypoglycemia. my blood sugar drops when i take allegra (fexofenadine). why would this be?

Excipient: Allegra (fexofenadine) tablets contain starch. Persons with hypoglycemia often release an excessive amount of Insulin when they eat sugar or starch. This is the only plausible explanation. Before concluding that this is the case recall that many medications contain small amounts of starch as excipients. There are no published reports of Allegra (fexofenadine) causing hypoglycemia. Very interesting.

Cause Hypoglycemia?: How low does your blood sugar get after taking this med? Some people with hypoglycemia may actually be Insulin resistant or frankly have type 2 diabetes. The stimulant part of this drug can further exacerbate pre-existing Insulin resistance and therefore also higher Insulin levels which could lead to more hypoglycemia. Please discuss with your doctor.
