Safe: More recently, there has been support for long term use of bowel stimulants and therapies for constipation. If you have the recommendation from your doctor, then i would feel comfortable with continuing.

Always Risks: Anytime laxatives are taken for a long period of time, there are usually some repercussions. The colon will eventually become weaker and weaker and can (but not always) stop functioning without the laxatives. However, sometimes this is the only answer to a problem. If you don't like your doctors recommendation, i submit you have a second opinion in person with another physician.
