Cartilage inflammation: It is a general inflammation of cartilage disorder. Poly means many and chondritis means cartilage inflammation. Cartllage imflammation is in various areas in the body. The cartilage becomes inflamed and it is inflamed due to an auto immune attack against the cartilage. Certain areas are susceptible especially ears and trachea. Joint pain occurs because of inflammation of cartilage in the joints.

Many infl cartilages: Poly= many; chondr=cartilage, itis=inflammation of. So technically speaking, it means polychondritis means inflam. Of multiple cartilages. There r a number of entities could be talking of: costochondritis= inflammation of the joint between bone and cartilage, usually ribs. . Polyarthritis=inflammation of multiple joints.
