Excellent: Herbal treatments are becoming more popular recently. Studies from europe confirm the benefit of butter burr for migraine. Better than other more toxic agents. Use it if effective and try to reduce the others.

Generally safe: Although butterbur is generally safe (and probably safer than most medications used to treat migraine), there have been some reports of liver toxicity in some preparations. Look for preparations that are low in pyrrolizidine alkaloids (pas), which is thought to be the ingredient that can cause toxicity.
