A member asked:

Coughing up water?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Coughing: Coughing "water" sounds concerning and may be an indication of aspiration occurring during drinking liquids. This would require an evaluation by a speech/swallow therapist and potentially an ent. Coughing in general indicated irritation in the airway at some level between the vocal cords and the lungs themselves. Producing enough fluid of any kind (mucus being common) should be evaluated.
