Some thoughts...: Pain in the upper part of the stomach or just under the ribs can be caused by gastritis (stomach irritation) reflux or heartburn; usually from spicy or fatty foods, alcohol, or caffeine. Viral illnesses can also cause stomach pain. If you're having a fever, the pain is progressively getting worse, or you're not holding any food down, you should see your doc sooner rather than later.
