Work with the doctor: A normal baby at 8 months can easily be trained to take a bottle, if "no breasts are available" to the baby. So, the baby in question appears to have other issues, leading to questions such as: is the baby truly too small, why is the baby too small, why won't the baby take a bottle, etc... In such cases, the parents have to see the doctor a few times and work together to keep the baby growing.

Weaning from breast: Expressed breast milk, fortified breast milk or concentrated formulas (talk to your provider about how to mix it properly) introduced with a cup, spoon or syringe may be an option.
