Lower abdominal pain: Mittelschmerz or pain associated with ovulation will be felt on the right or left side in the lower abdomen. This pain can be intense & associated with bloating, constipation. It can present just like appendicitis. Cyclic recurrence and timing in the cycle help the diagnosis. Typically it lasts 1-3 days. Women usually experience more intense ovulatory pain as they get into their mid-30's and up.

Abdominal Cramping: Usually mittelschmerz occurs around cycle day 14, upon ovulation. Symptoms can vary. It can be a sharp pain on either side of the lower abdomen (or both), or a dull lower abdominal cramping pain that lasts minutes to hours. This pain usually resolves. If it persists or worsens, then contact your health care provider.
