A member asked:

What are the implications of a slow heart rate?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It depends: A slow heart rate in an asymptomatic athlete maybe completely normal and does not warrant any further evaluation or treatment. In patients who do have symptoms such as lethargy, fatigue or decreased exercise tolerance then it may require further evaluation. The other thing that is important is not what the heart rate is at rest but rather its response to exercise - chronotropic competence.
