Anytime: The original research on newborn hep b administration was done years ago in hawaii & it was one of the first states to see a decline in hep b disease across the population. It is commonly given now at birth, 1-2 m & 6m during infancy but can be given to older kids at any age. Those who missed the vaccine in childhood should look into it.

Vaccine shots; what are the consequences if you get your hepatitis a vaccine but don't get hepatitis b shot?

Immunity only Hep A: If you had 2 shot series for hepatitis a you are immune from that viral illness for life. There is a combination hep a/hep b vaccine but it sounds like you were not offered that choice & were started on hep a vaccine alone. Talk to your provider about adding hep b vaccine series now as a series of three doses.

Hep B vaccine: Not if you do not work there. Only employees who work in hospitals and clinics are required to take the vaccine to prevent them from getting it from an infected patient.
