Why do people allways start sniffing when they get a runny nose?

To keep it inside: When your nose is running, you sniff (inhale) to bring the secretions (snot) back into the nose, rather than letting them drip on your clothes, food, or reading material. (i'll bet you could have figure that out for yourself if you'd thought about it!).
