Don't know: Don't know about abreva, but a dental laser can be used to shorten the life of the cold sores and may stop them from returning to the same tissue area.

Shortens the healing: A cold sore generally takes 14 days to run its course. Once the vesicles have popped, and the crusty scab has formed, there isn't a lot one can do to speed the process. Using the abreva topical cream can shorten the healing by a few days. If the cold sore is discovered in the prodrome, your dentist can prescribe an antiviral such as Valtrex (valacyclovir) in combination with topical creams to prevent outbreaks.
