Yes: Bee stings can certainly be fatal if a true allergy exists. Fortunately, most stings result in a local reaction, which is a typical reaction that does not require further workup. However, if a systemic reaction occurs (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling elsewhere, etc), a referral to an allergist should be made for further evaluation as these reactions can be fatal in the future.
