Suicidal thoughts : Can occur for many reasons but usually involve a desperate search for an escape or relief from pain, shame, humiliation, embarrassment, or undesired consequences (prison, illness, divorce, exposure of a secret) or as a way to punish self or others. When someone feels depressed, helpless and hopeless, death may seem like the only answer. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Yes: However, this is a complicated question because many factors can contribute to suicidal ideation. Brain diseases like bipolar disorder and depression greatly increase the frequency of suicidal ideation and the % of completions. Personality issues may contribute, and social stress, financial stress, loss of self-esteem and confidence are often important factors to address.

Don't wait, get help: Whether you have any intentions of hurting yourself or not, having suicidal thoughts is a serious matter. It is always the best choice to seek professional choice right away, without delay. Even if you have no intention of hurting yourself, the fact is that depressed people with that kind of thinking are prone to serious accidental injuries that can even be fatal. Don't wait.
