Studies meticulous.: Assisted reproduction technology has only been widely available for a couple of decades. The risk of birth defects in any normal pregnancy is 2-4%, and art does not appear to affect that significantly, which is why it took a while to tease out a mild increase in certain congenital anomalies with icsi alone (not regular ivf). See: n engl j med 2012;366:1803-13.
