Antibiotics/surgery: Peritonitis is inflammation of the lining of the abdominal cavity. Most common causes are due to bacterial infections originating from appendicitis, diverticulitis, bowel perforation, colitis, and cancer. It is treated with antibiotics that cover the bacteria normally present in the intestines and frequently with surgery to correct the underlying cause.
