ABSOLUTELY: Smoking, excessive drinking, chewing tobacco, dipping snuff are all very high risk activities for developing cancer in the mouth and throat region - not just the tongue.

Chewing tobacco: Chewing tobacco or smokeless or "spit" tobacco has been associated with a higher incidence of oral cancer include those of the tongue. A host of other factors also contribute to development of cancers of the mouth and throat like human papilloma virus (hpv16), smoking and alcohol use.
