Work differently: Both Zanaflex (tizanidine) and valium can cause muscle relaxation. They work by different mechanisms. They are not equivalent. Valium has a higher tendency to cause dependence then zanaflex (tizanidine).

Zanaflex/Valium: Zanaflex (tizanidine) is a central Alpha2 adrenergic agonist used as muscle relaxant. Valium is a Benzodiazepine.
