Well Deserved Recog.: Most hospitals have required on-call duties for all physicians on staff. This is usually uncompensated (no pay) & disrupts their practice, keeps them up even more, & in short is usually non-rewarding with difficult, emergent, high risk patients. Senior staff usually are granted no-call status as a courtesy & in appreciation for years of service. It's a well-deserved perk, sort of like tenure.
