Keep your baby safe: First, use a crib and mattress that meets aap and cpsc safety guidelines; follow assembly and use instructions. A safe and stable diaper changing surface placed against the wall is a must, too. Place outlet covers on all outlets and check carefully to ensure tall furniture pieces like bookshelves are bolted to the walls. All lights and cords must be kept safely out of your baby's reach.

Proper crib: Put the baby to sleep in a crib with a firm mattress. There should be no bumper pads in the crib. Do not have pillows, blankets and stuffed animals in the crib. Baby must sleep on his/her back. Don't let the baby sleep in bed with you. No smoking in the home.
