Seek evaluation.: There are many causes & types of urinary incontinence (ui). Overactive bladder or a weak sphincter are causes. A detailed history, physical exam, and testing can determine exactly what type of ui you are experiencing. Some types of leakage are treated with pelvic exercise, some with medication, and others with procedures, even surgery. A gynecologist or urologist will have expertise and can help.

Treatable condition: Two common reasons for urine leakage in women. Urge incontinence occurs when the bladder spasms pushing urine out. Medications help. Stress incontinence occurs after childbirth where the urethra support is stretched so it sags and urine leakage occurs with coughing, laughing, and exercise. Kegels may help. If not, then a sling works well: takes 10 minutes, outpatient, & recovery in few days.
