Yes: Yes. In general, we think most colon cancers take about 10 years to develop. Hence, the guidelines for colonoscopy every 10 years if a "normal" colon is found. However, some familial syndromes result in faster polyp and cancer growth. Also, some individuals may have more or faster growing polyps or cancers. A gastroenterologist should be able to help individualize a surveillance program.

Yes: Colon cancer can grow and spread at varying rates. There is no way to tell in an individual patient the rate that their cancer will or has grown. In general, it takes several years for a polyp to grow into a cancer.
