It is not that uncommon and typically has to do with subchorionic hematomas that develop as your placenta invades the uterine vessels - to grow. Bed rest and pelvic rest (i.e. No intercourse) are advisable, as well as avoidance of all nsaids including Aspirin (tylenol (acetaminophen) ok).
