What can i expect if i go to the emergency room for treatment of a sprain? evaluation by orthopod?

Unlikely: A sprain will likely go to a triage nurse or resident. It is not a emergency and hence you likely will not be given any priority. Rest, ice, compression and antiinflammatories and see your doc, don't clog an emergency room for a non emergency issue. Hope you feel better.

Ed staff: A minor sprain or strain will likely not be staffed by an orthopedic surgeon as ed staff are more than qualified to triage and provide acute treatment for these injuries. If the injury is more severe the ed provider may consult an orthopedic surgeon. The emergency room will recommend appropriate follow up based on the nature of the injury.

Sprain: The er physician will perform your exam. At that point depending on your diagnosis they may refer you to your primary care physician or into an orthopedist.
