See below: For some types of sports injuries, usually those affecting areas of the body where there is less fat and connective tissue to block and insulate, ice can be effective within the first 48 hours after an injury due to the physiology of the inflammatory response.

Icing an injury : Usually first 48 hours are the best time to ice. Ice at 15 minute intervals and as often as you can tolerate it.
