A 35-year-old member asked:
what does a creatine kinase level of 322 indicate?

Dr. Gurmukh Singh answered

Muscle injury: Ck level of 322 is elevated but not too high. Elevated levels of ck indicate muscle injury, however strenous physical activity will raise ck levels, especially if activity is done prior to blood draw. Some medications and alcohol can casue ck elevation.

Dr. Singh is correct. If you are athletic, and feel well, there is no reason to be concerned.

What disease has normal white count and hi creatine kinase?

Dr. Joseph Woods answered

Muscle issues/MI.: The main possibility to be concerned about is myocardial infarction. The ck-mb fraction would be particularly elevated here. This would fit with a total picture, like chest pain, etc.. Other reasons for total creatine kinase elevation include im (intramuscular) injection, heavy exercise, and skeletal muscle trauma.

Normal white count and a high level of creatine kinase. What illness could this indicate?

Maybe none: If you exercise, you ck can be very high -- many times the upper limit of normal. The normal range is for couch potatoes. I'm glad you asked, but no lab test means much in isolation. Best to ask your physician and see what matches with your symptoms and lifestyle.

Enzyme in muscle: Creatine kinase is an enzyme found in muscles throughout the body. There are different subtypes of the enzyme, called isoforms, which predominate in different organs. For instance, the isoform in skeletal muscles is different from that which is most heavily found in the heart muscle.
A blood tests detects levels of this in the body, for example if one suspects muscle inflammation.
