3 to 6 hours: Nubain is the trade name for nalbuphine, a pain reliever in the narcotic family of medications. It can be given into a vein, into a muscle, or under the skin. It usually lasts for 3 to 6 hours. Side effects such as nausea wear off as the medication itself is metabolized and wears off.
