See below: For some types of sports injuries, usually those affecting areas of the body where there is less fat and connective tissue to block and insulate, ice can be effective within the first 48 hours after an injury due to the physiology of the inflammatory response.

Any injury.: You can apply ice to any injury, sprain or strain. Or if you have pain or soreness from overuse, ice is helpful.
