Bursitis possible: The commonest swelling on the elbow is a bursitis (olecranon bursitis) that can swell up with fluid. If infected it can be very painful and red. Other causes can be cysts in the skin or abscess but that is painful. Simple examination will confirm if it is bursitis and the fluid can be aspirated in the office.
