Ritalin/adderall: Both are stimulants. Ritalin belongs to the methylphenidate group. Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) belongs to the amphetamine group.

Different families: Ritalin and aDderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) are from different families. Ritalin=methylphenidate, Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) = amphetamine. They have essentially the same effect on the brain.
