Several ideas: It could be one of several things. As far a disease, it could be parkinson's disease. It could be a side-effect to certain medications. It could be something called an essential tremor, sometimes called a familial tremor as they tend to run in families. It could be low blood sugar as well as other conditions i haven't mentioned.

Essential Tremor: Meds that commonly are used include: Primidone (mysoline (primidone) = mild barbituate), Inderal or Corgard (propranolol or Nadolol = beta blockers), topomax (topiramate = neuronal discharge stabilizer), neptazene or Diamox (methazolamide or acetozolamide = carbonic anhydrase inhibitors), or even Botox (muscle contraction inhibitor) by an experienced injector. If meds fail, gamma knife radiosurgery can help.
