A member asked:

What causes images that you see after you stare at something for few seconds?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Afterimages: If you stare at something steadily, you bleach some of the photopigments in the pattern of what you are staring at. You will see a negative or color reversal image for a short period until your photopigments regenerate.
