No: When i was a kid, i was foolish enough to believe in this. I learned from my experience the power of wishful thinking and self-deception. Neither freud's theory of dream interpretation or pop fortune-telling claims have any scientific basis; freud does deserve credit for developing talk-based psychotherapy, and today one's dreams may be something to talk about despite no specific meaning.

Therapeutic tool: Dream interpretation can be a very powerful therapeutic tool. It is important to remember that ultimately the only person who can really come to understand the meaning is the dreamer. As a therapist, i may have a hypothesis but it is exactly that - a hypothesis. Dreams are also not literal and are rich in symbolic imagery. I would not recommend buying a book that tells what each symbol means.
