Epiglottitis: Treatment of epiglottitis involves immediate and urgent care at the hosptial ed. It's a severe infection that needs IV antibiotics. Since you can stop breathing anytime, the doctor may pass a breathing tube through your throat. If that is not successful, a tracheostomy will be done by cutting through the skin and windpipe and inserting a breathing apparatus.

Please see below.: Most of the time, someone with epiglottitis must be intubated (have a tube put in the airway to keep it open) until the swelling resolves, and all patients with this condition need to be in the icu. After bacterial cultures are taken, IV antibiotics are started. Fever relievers may also be needed.
