Confused: Hypoglycemia means low blood sugar. You would not want to decrease sugar if hypoglycemic. One complication of hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) is dehydration, but drinking water does not fix the primary problem. See your doctor or a certified diabetes educator.

Dilute: Water can help to dilute things, but the treatment for patients with diabetes who have high blood sugar is Insulin or other medication per doctor. We advocate sugar free fluids in addition to Insulin when patients also have ketones. Drinking water alone won't address the problem. Without enough Insulin blood sugars will just continue to climb. Most importantly, please discuss with your doctor.
