Weeks to months: From your description you may have telogen effluvium. It is a fairly common thing to see after a significant medical event. We usually lose more than 100 hairs a day naturally. After a severe illness one can see that increase more than double that. Most people will take several months for the problem to stop and for the hairs to return. Your dermatologist can also help explain if necessary.
