Infant feeding: Infants will be fine growing without solid foods until 6 months but introducing food at four months is totally acceptable. You may start with rice cereal and vegetables at 4 mos followed by fruits at 6 and meats at 6 mos.

Baby Nutrition: 4 month old infants should be able to begin a rice cereal addition to their formula and/or milk. I would recommend veggies around 6-8 months of age.

Why: Early feeding is a throwback to the years when mom's made their own marginal formula from cow milk.It is not needed in the first year, but most begin the transition to solids when the kids can sit up, and the tongue thrust subsides, at about 6mo. When and if you start solids, you need to use a spoon.Solids are offered to teach a new method of feeding, not to fill some void in the babies nutrition.
