Surgery: Skin cancers is usually treated by surgical excision. This allows you to assess that the margins are clear and will allow you to stage the tumor appropriately. Occasionally, in poor surgical candidates, non-surgical modalities may be employed.

Depends on type: Treatment depends on the type and the stage of the cancer. Melanoma is treated locally with a margin of skin removed around the lesion. In addition depending on the stage of the melanoma lymph nodes by be removed in what is called a sentinel lymph node biopsy. Basal cell and squamous cell are treatment by removing the lesion with a narrow margin of normal tissue.
