Transplant rejection: Ideally, transplanted kidneys come from a twin or close relative to minimize rejection. Otherwise, the body does not recognize the transplant as "self" & attacks the "foreigner". Thus the use of immunosuppressant drugs to suppress the recipient's immune system to prevent rejection of the transplanted kidney.
