A member asked:

Ms. lavigne has been a smoker for 35 years and has been diagnosed with asthma for 25 of those years?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Asthma & smoking: There is a strong correlation between asthma and smoking but one cannot say if the two are related in an individual unless that person stops smoking! one thing is clear: asthma won't go away until she has been off tobacco for at least one month. It's also possible that quitting won't completely cure her asthma but asthma will be much less severe and easier to control.
