Always: This progressive neurologic disease has no cure. Recently there have been transplants of stem cells into the nervous system which have had mixed effects, but not curative.

No cure: Although some patients can survive over 10-20 yrs if they lack bulbar involvement and continue to maintain swallowing and breathing, otherwise, most patients do not last much beyond 3-5 yrs.

ALS can be difficult: Often ALS causes death. A person with ALS can be supported a long time with assistance with movement, breathing, and swallowing, many people with ALS may not wish to pursue these treatments however.
