A few hours: Assuming that a local anesthetic is used you can expect the feeling to return in just a few hours. If there is a sensation of numbness that lingers for a few days you should return to the surgeon who performed the surgery and discuss your concern with him/her.

Few hours: Few hours unless oral surgeon used long acting (6-8 hours) agent. If numbness present, next day, nerve injury may be present. In that case, contact oral surgeon.
