Work with urologist.: Chronic prostatitis can be a very difficult problem to endure and to manage. In cases where bacteria have been isolated, close followup with repeat cultures and appropriate antibiotics is necessary. Where no infection has been detected, a multi-prong approach with medications, pelvic floor training, and pain management strategies may be required.

Prostatitis Rx: Antibiotics are commonly prescribed in the treatment for prostatitis. Alpha blocker drugs help relax the bladder neck and the muscle fibers where your prostate joins your bladder which may lessen painful urination. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may also help. Prostate massage by your doctor may also help.
